What is the best car insurance provider for young drivers?
I have recently passed my driving test, and was wondering which car insurance provider is cheapest as most of them seem to be very expensive!

I had the same problem. I was quite young when I passed and most companies turned me down because I was younger than 21. Others were not even worth considering because the premium came to around £1000. I was recommended Privilege from a friend, as that was the cheapest, and I have been with them since. Bear in mind that most companies take into consideration your age, no claims bonuses etc, so try a few places for quotes before you settle for one.

Hello,

We often take for granted what a convenience our cars are. I was paying a low price for my insurance, but at renewal time, my insurer tried to increase my rates.

My friend sent me a link to this site:

http://www.help-my-house-mortgage-rent.org

They have a free search to compare auto rates from the major insurers. It saved me a lot of money!

Best of Luck

hi i found my insurance quite expensive when i first started driving. found fortis to be the cheapest by far, although i use brokers, Fortis always come out cheapest. Also try and do your Pass Plus which gives you a discount of 10-15% I Believe.

Alsao if your go through Quidco Portal you will get cashback on your premium. My Insurance cost £250 and with AIG through Quidco got £140 cashback.

You can try to long hard way of shopping asround, or just go to confused.com, and they will check a lot of insurers, and come back with a list of quotes, then choose which one you want with the cover they offer.

Well, there are lots of companies online that you could get a free car insurance quote rate. You just fill-up the form and then compare it among the others. There are certain factors in getting your cheap car insurance. Depends on the car, state, age, driving record, etc.

Don't go with sports cars and new model cars. They have expensive auto insurance.

Good luck on your search... Drive safe... :)

Well for younger drivers that's always going to be the case. At least you're a girl where as a guy can cost double for car insurance for the same age. Check this site out http://www.ez-insurancesearch.com they'll give you good info and quotes from some of the top providers in your area.

There is no definitive answer to this. Use one of the price comparison sites such as moneysupermarket.com or confused.com. There is no one company that is the best for young drivers, on all cars, in all parts of the country. Insurance companies don't work like that.

My daughter is 20, she drives a Nissan Micra, and is insured with Elephant.co.uk she found this was the cheapest after trying all the comparison sites. Best to shop around and try putting an experienced driver on your policy too we found that brought the price down a bit if you don't have any no claims to help you.

Try Confused .com Although not a young driver anymore, thank goodness, they offered a wide range of different companies to choose from.

Endsleigh specialise in student drivers I have a 1.6 Ford escort and for third party fire and theft, windscreen cover and a carry on form provisional to full. 1800

There is no ONE insurance company that is right for everyone - everyone is rated individually - and all companies have different "likes and dis-likes", different credit tiers, different business models, and many other factors that can vary your rate - and a QUOTE is ONLY a quote until the policy is issued.

Typically, insurance rates will vary from State to State and can even vary by ZIPCODE! It also will depend on the type of car/truck, coverages, limits of liability, and driving record. Some companies run credit scores and MOST run a motor vehicle report and CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report to see about undisclosed accident involvement.

The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent or broker. Don't go across town, or to some other city - look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.

An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.

In my agency, we have companies that do NOT run a credit score and welcome drivers with "less than perfect" driving records and specialize in youthful operators!

The best thing to do would be to see about getting insured on your parent(s)' policy. Depending on your age - this might be the ONLY way as you have to be 18 or over to have your own policy. If you are under 18, you cannot legally sign a contract and an insurance policy IS a contract.

Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won't be able to talk with the same person every time you have a problem!

Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!

I'm 17, almost 18 and I've been looking into buying a car for myself. A used one of course. Anyways, I'm wondering how much it would generally cost a month for car insurance. Also, what are some of the best car insurance companies that are helpful and cheap? Thanks in advance guys!

possibly between 120 and 450.

See this

http://cars.guidearticles.com/InsuranceComparison.html?id=990p4 it's one form to get a number of quotes from different insurers. It's free and a big time saver, these are all the main American insurers competing to get your business so you are bound to find something that suits you, if it works out remember my points please :)

When i was you age the cheapest quote i got was £1400 for the year, it goes down in price if your female, and it depends what car you have mine was quite old get a 1.1-1.3 this should keep the price down, also if you do your pass plus that can knock a couple of hundred quid off. If you pay it all of at once instead of paying monthly you could get it for around £1000 a year. Its roughly £130-£140 a month though if you pay each month.

hmm all depends where you live and if other local teens with cars arent the smartest drivers. but id say ave in eastern pa is about $280 to $340 if your insured alone. sad but yea its expensive here. hope where ever you are its a little better.

As long as you haven't had many accidents you should get great rates.

I want to pay my car insurance in full for a year, instead of 6 months. Geico and Progressive will not allow me. I live in New York City, Bronx County. Please help!

Instead of wasting your time calling and emailing a bunch of different insurance agencies, try a site like Insure-Net and have them contact you. When you are filling out your free quote request, just specify that you want to pay for a year at a time. You might even get a lower rate by shopping around a bit. Hope this helps! Good Luck!!!

Travelers writes a full year auto policy & writes in NY. The best thing for you to do is to contact a local independent agent that writes for many companies. They probably have several that write full year policies.

Progressive only writes annual policies in some states. Most states they only write 6 month policies. GEICO, as far as I know, only writes 6 month policies.

Hi Miss M,

I believe every company will write a 12 month policy.

I use a little company out of Texas the insures me in New York City. I went with them because they are 40% cheaper.

Good Luck :)

I was going to say every company will let you pay for a year, but maybe I'm wrong...try different companies, surely one out there will. Good luck!

all of them will take your money in full you just need to do it at a office your talking to the wrong person

cool u live in the bronx

I understand that Michigan is a no-fault state, and as a result everyone gets this PLPD insurance or something. I'm moving from Pennsylvania and had full coverage on my car for about $90/month. I thought PA and MI were both no-fault, but it seems different and the rates I'm being quoted for the same insurance in MI are higher. I'm so confused!! Also, right now I am on State Farm. I'm 25 but on my mom's plan, and I am getting married/changing my last name and I now live in Michigan so it is past time for me to pay for my own insurance.

Michigan is a wierd state for insurance. If your car is worth anything, you will have to have physical damage coverage. Reason: If you are in an accident, the most you can collect is $500.00 from the other insurance company ( it is called a mini tort) unless you ae legally parked at the time of loss. As the laws are this way, the rates are higher as the Insurance co's cannot collect the damages that they paid out from the other person's insurance co due to the law only allowing the mini tort $500.00. Also, the closer you are to Detroit, the higher the rates due to the high incidence of auto theft in that area.

Tey to get a rate quote from http://www.surfquotes.com/autoinsurance.html You should be able to save some money

Try AAA, you know the auto club. I have my auto and homeowner's policy through them. They can compete with GEICO's rates. If your new husband has a good driving record, as you do, your rates will be better than single rates, but probably more than $90 a month!

state farm all the way dont go for companies that only really have a few thousand customers though out the nation state farm has almost billions

use progressive or allstate

i dont know but:

GO PISTONS!

GO SHOCK!

GO REDWINGS!

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!

o yeah!!!!

michigan car insurance

call geico.

PLPD means Personal Liability Property Damage. It is required in Michigan.

Beyond that, you can purchase full coverage with a variety of deductables.

Rates vary from city to city, state to state, and car to car.

One of the factors influencing the rate is your address where the vehicle is parked. It could be you are moving to an area with a higher accident rate than where you were.

True. Michigan is a no-fault state. However, there are different types of collision coverage in the state. Each one costs a different amount and each one had its benefits. The most expensive is broad-form collision. Which means if you are not at fault for an accident then your deductible is waived. Second, is standard collision which is like any other collision. Lastly, there is limited collision. This collision is frankly not very good. If you at fault in an accident you will not have collision coverage on your car. Now, if you are not at fault then your coverage will apply. Limited collision and standard collision your deductible will always apply. Comprehensive is just the same as anywhere else. Plus, Michigan has the best medical benefits of any state if you are in an accident because of the lifetime benefits you received if you are injured.

Only $90 a month with full coverage in PA? Well, you must not have lived in Philly! PA is not "no-fault". PA has comparative negligence and if you are at fault, your insurance will pay the other person's damage. People throw around the term "no fault" very liberally when most of the time the term actually refers to medical benefits coverage that you carry on your policy that pays if you get hurt regardless of fault. One state can be a higher insurance state, just as areas within a state can be that way. If you moved from a lower insurance state where the risk is low to a different area where it's higher, you can expect to pay more. Plus being under your mom's policy may have offered you a different rate than what you'll get now, on your own, married in a different state. I don't think you can really compare the two.

I'd recommend calling a local multi-insurance agent here in Michigan. Find out where you are moving to, and then check the phone listings for insurance agents. You might find a better deal that way.

If you have $90 per month, that was because you were on a multiple car discount. I know of no person in Michigan that can get full coverage at that rate in Michigan. So be prepared to pay more here in Michigan. This is why we use PLPD insurance instead of full coverage.

One way to reduce your insurance rates here is to ask for a higher deductible (which means you pay instead of say, $250 you pay $500 of the claim), but make sure you have that amount of room on your credit card. You will save more money in the long run, because you are not as likely to get in an accident as you are to pay premiums every 6 months.

Welcome to the Great Lake State!

I rented a car from Enterprise and declined their insurance. I had credit card insurance. However I made a blunder of not initiating the rental in that credit card. While driving the rental car the tire blew out and the car hit the median and there is some extensive damage to the car. I am in deep trouble now as my credit car insurance will not work as I didnt initiate the car rental in that card. Is there any way that I can salvage this situation? Please help!!

Yes, you pay for the damage. For future reference, credit card insurance isn't auto liaility insurance & it doesn't alleviate your responsibility to have it...what would you do if you hit a pedestrian or another car?

And you do not insure any of your own cars or home owners policy. I would be calling my insurance agent quickly. Or hire an attorney sue Enterprise for allowing you out in a defective car? That won't work if they down load the Car computer and see that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed, The air bags deploy? then the computer recorded everything up to 4 minutes before the bags went off. Sounds like you pay to fix it out of pocket keep receipts and use it as a tax deduction. After 2,000 damage most rental cars companies wholesale the car at auction so it just keeps getting worse and worse doesn't it. I worked on one that drove into high water last week The rental company declined repair and stuck the renter with the difference between what auction amount and another car would cost. New Motor $4,300 declined car probably sold at auction for $8,000 with 4,300 miles on it and a new unit would cost 21,000 so guess who's insurance is paying out $13,000. That 20 dollar rental insurance is looking real good right now.

Do you have personal car insurance. Check your insurance coverage, you may be covered for any car that you drive.

If you have auto insurance on your own car it MIGHT cover the rental. My insurance automatically covers every vehicle that I drive as excess to the owner's insurance so I'm fully insured on rentals in the US and Canada.

If you don't have auto insurance yourself or if your policy does not extend to rental cars then your only option is to arrange to pay for the damage to the rental vehicle yourself. By rejecting the coverage with the rental agency and not using a credit card that provides the coverage you assume the entire risk yourself. Sorry, but there's no way around that for the most part.

You MIGHT have a case to claim that the vehicle was not in safe operating condition (defective tire) and therefore the damage is due to the rental companies negligence. That would only apply if you did not do anything that could have damaged the tire in the first place such as hitting a pothole or curb.

I'd consult with a local attorney and see if there's any to claim negligence on the rental company as a defense. Good luck, you're going to need it!

First check with your insurance agent, you may have coverage for damage to rental vehicles. If you don't, prepare to open your checkbook and make the rental company whole on the damage and perhaps the time they didn't have the vehicle available for rental.

do you have car insurance? Talk to them.

Sure...get two jobs and pay for the damages. You will HAVE to pay this. Enterprise doesn't fool around with people like you and will slap a lawsuit on you by next weekend if you don't come to some sort of agreement.

I need to find cheap car insurance for an 18yo female who owns outright an $11000.00 car. Any suggestions?

i work in insurance in australia.

well, i would have suggested getting "third party property damage only" type insurance, having it for a few years showing the insurance company that you don't claimTHEN buying a more expensive vehicle. some insurers would take your third party only insurance history into account and give you a discount on comprehensive.

but, as you'll no doubt want comprehensive insurance on this car, you'll just have to shop around. "market value" type car insurance is usually cheaper than "agreed value" so you might want to start there.

i always recommend to young drivers to buy a car they don't particularly care about writing off and insuring it third party only for a couple of years for exactly the top reason.

insurance is expensive for younger drivers as it's pretty much guaranteed that their car is going to be involved in an accident.

if your parents are insured and you still live at home, try their insure to see if they give out a family discount.

ps. don't bother trying to insure it under your parents name - it just makes it difficult when you need to claim. imagine, it's pouring rain, you've just had an accident and you need to get a tow truck. if your car is insured under your parents name, then they would need to sort this out for you and if they are uncontactable. well. you get the drift. this kind of thing happens all the time.

If the 18 year old lives at home, the cheapest will be to be added on a parent's policy. If not, there is none. But to find the best bet for you, check in with an independent agent who can search the data base to find what is best for you.

youre a female so youre already ahead of us 18 year old guys. (totally backwards i know) but hey what ya gonna do?

I'm afraid it may not be that easy...they base it on your age and your driving record and yes..the type of car does make some difference however...younger people will most likely have a higher rate anyway...and you really haven't been driving long enough to build up any kind of substantial record...I'm afraid that only keeping a good driving record..and more years behind the wheel will be the only way to get lower rates over time......sorry.

I need to get tags for my car this month, only when I called my car financing company to see how much it is, they told me that my insurance had lapsed, and my registration was suspended!! I had no idea, because my cousin had gotten the insurance for me (we are now estranged, and I don't have any contact with her), and I was told by her the insurance expired in May. All my documments have been sent to her house (and she refuses to send me my mail) and I had no idea. Now, I'm terrified that I won't be able to get my registration back, or pay fines, because I just barely have enough to get new insurance and pay for my tags. I have no proof that she bought insurance for me through May or anything. Does anyone else have had to go through this? What will happen? Please help!

As I understand it, you've got 3 issues.

1. No insurance.

2. Expired registration

3. No copy of your registration

Sounds like you need to re-insure the car, then go down to the DMV with your VIN and license plate number handy and show them proof of insurance and pay the registration fees. While you are there, make sure they update their database with your new address.

After paying the fees, they should be able to print you off a new registration certificate and issue you the new tags right then and there.

1)Go to a local insurance agent and tell them that you want an insurance policy. Give them the name and account number for your car loan. They can confirm the VIN and title info.

2)Go to the BMV(call first) find out what you need to get duplicate registration. You will definitely need proof of insurance to do this, so complete step 1 first.

In both steps above, do everything yourself. Give current, accurate address and phone info. Give truthful answers to the application questions. Finally, human beings are sympathetic creatures, but financial institutions are not. I understand that S**T happens, but banks, BMV and insurance companies don't really care. The owner of a vehicle and insurance policy is responsible for maintaining insurance so ultimately you cannot pass the blame. You can take responsibility, buck up this time and learn from the mistake.

If you are the registered owner of the car, you would have been notified by mail when your insurance expired and given a chance to bring it up to date. Also you don't call your finance company to see how much your tags are going to be, you call the office that handles such things. Likewise they would have no idea about the registration. All they know is whether or not the payments are being made.

So I suspect you are being less that truthful here. Even if you did give them someone Else's address, you could always (since it's in your name) change that address at the post office and you would get everything with your name on it then. Likewise the insurance company. Likewise the finance company, and the tag office.

First of all she's commiting a felony if she is opening and reading your mail without your consent.Secondly you have a 30 day grace after the policy expires to get it reinstated but now you are high risk.

You need to contact the postoffice to get you address changed and notify all of your debtors of the same NOW!

Get ready to pay some high premiums. You'll need to change everything into your name.

You will need to get a new policy first & then get everything else ironed out. You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.

I would start by calling an insurance company of your choice and explain to them what is going on. They might help you staighten everything out, or point you in the right direction.

Car insurance is the only insurance that people are afraid to use. Its ridiculous. I mean if you are sick you use your medical insurance. If your house gets flooded you use your flood insurance. If your tv breaks down you use your tv insurance.

But when you rear end another car you try your best to give them money to repair the car instead of using the insurance that you pay your hard earned money for? I'm sorry but doesn't this sound stupid?

Isnt the point of paying for insurance is to use it when needed? Im sure all of use try our best to drive safe but when it comes time to use the insurance we try our best not to. if we have a scratch on our car we pay it out of our own wallet. These deductibles and price increases after using insurance is crazy.

Anyways just my rant about car insurance. What do you guys think of it?

You said it in your rant. "These deductibles and price increases after using insurance is crazy" yeah maybe I do have a slight accident or minor fender bender. Which is cheaper, buying a 250$ fender, 100$ for painting, a total of 350$.....OR Paying 250$ deductible, then having them raise my rates so that I pay 400$ more each year, A total of 650$.

It is stupid, they shouldn't be allowed to do it, but it happens. Honestly the only reason I have insurance is because I'm required to do so by law. If we didn't HAVE to....I probably wouldn't unless it was a brand new car that was very expensive.

The car insurance policy is automatically renewed. The driver forgot to report to the insurance company that he had a speeding conviction before the renew date. Does that mean he has made his policy invalid and would not protected by the policy at all?

If your insurance company called you on renewal and asked you if you had any new tickets or traffic violations and you specifically said no knowing you did that could cause you problems, but if they didnt call you and you did get one you can always tell them. Working for an insurance company for years now i know we would never void a policy if they didnt report a violation to us. Not only is it bad business practice but when you think about it they could possibly be collecting more premium for your conviction then they would be to cancel you. I would give them a call and tell them you did get one and I wouldnt worry to much, just always be honest with them because they have the right to pull your driving record and they will call you on your non disclosure if you said no. But dont be to worried and good luck.

ARRRRHHHH, this is so frustrating when such WRONG answers get chosen as best. Read the phrasing - this person is not in the UK. In the UK you have to notify your insurance company PROACTIVELY, you cannto just wait for thier call. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080331043120AAnXUEB&kid=NbUvWDG_VTOLt_cjG3fO&s=comm&date=2008-04-01+01%3A04%3A12&.crumb=

Yep. Some times they put on the application for exclude 1 or 2 speeding, always better to tell them you know that if there is a chance of not paying they will

Good luck

It COULD be, if the insurers are really pedantic, as you're required to report these convictions. However, most insurers will overlook the odd slip-up such as that.

Could be he better report it now even though speeding convictions are not top of their priority list

The money market is very tight at the moment. So underwriters are keen to invalidate long standing policies and get people into new agreements often for a considerable increase in premium.

And they would use the non disclosure as a reason to invalidate his policy if he were to have an accident.

One of the first checks they do is with the DVLA, who will know of the conviction.

Yes, absolutely.

Its a requirement to tell them of the conviction when you get it, not wait for renewal.

check your T&Cs. Insurance companies used to wait until renewal, now you need to tell them within 24 hours - that all changed about 10 years ago.

If you get a ticket today, and don't tell them today, you are not insured tomorrow.

my SP30 took my insurance up by £30 for the remaining 4 months of my insurance. Some companies allow you one SP30 without impacting your premium but you still need to tell them.

Any changes to your details need to be reported to you insurers or if you were to claim on you insurance they may refuse you application

Yes im afraid it is invalid, Was it really forgotton or "forgotton " if you know what I mean :-) My other half tried that one, but quickly managed to change it before anything happened to invalidate the policy

The policy holder should inform the insurers of any change in circumstances straightaway. The policy probably won't be valid if a claim is made.

I have never had problems with my insurance due to not telling them of a conviction or an accident. Your policy is valid until they send you a letter saying that it is not. If the policy expires and they decide to renew you, they always scan your drivers record. If they do not see the conviction on your drivers record for one reason or another you have nothing to worry about. On several occations I have had a ticket and the insurance company was not able to pick them up from my drivers record for some reason at the time of the renewal or even at future renewals.

I am planning to buy a car in ireland, and I posses a valid Indian license. How can I get an insurance for it? I have an appointment for drivers theory test next week. Any body please help.

For car insurance the best way to get a very good rate is do a rate comparison on auto policies. Make certain that you pick similar policies with the same deductibles, car model, zip code, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I usually recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have discount insurers and will give many quotes on car insurance polices.

I pay for my geico car insurance every six months because I save some money instead of paying monthly.

Here is a thing I am going to out of US for 3 months and I do not need insure my car however I already paid for the 6 months.

Can I cancel my car insurance and get the rest of money back?

Do they have any freezing method for these situations?

If I cancel my car insurance, will they charge me some money?

How do they calculate this?

Need specific answer, Thanks.

Yes you can cancel your policy, by notifying them in writing. You do NOT get all the money back - there's a short rate cancellation charge, AND a cancellation fee when allowed by the state. The short rate is about a month's premium. The cancellation fee varies by state, but is typically $50.

Also, if you have 3 months with no insurance, you'll be considered high risk when you get back, and you'll pay A LOT more for your car insurance then.

I'd say, talk to your agent, but you ARE your own agent with Geico, and they're not going to help you out. But if you have a LOAN on your car, your lender will have a fit if you cancel, and penalize you heavily - and might repo the car. And if you don't, you're probably better off dropping all but the bare minimum coverages, to keep the policy active.

Don't cancel the policy. If the car will be parked / stored, and you are certain that it will not be driven at all while you are away, then you can call GEICO and ask to suspend all coverage except Comprehensive. They may ask you to send a written request to do so, but it will be well worth it. Your policy will be credited for the pro-rated cost of the suspended coverages. When you return, call your insurance company at least one day prior to driving the car & ask to have the suspended coverages restored. You definitely don't want to cancel the whole policy - you will be considered "high risk" when you attempt to get a new policy after having a lapse of coverage.

Most insurance policies have a provision in them that allow for for a reduction in the insurance coverage. I.e. if you are going away for 3 months, you can have the collision cancelled for that period but keep coverage on for thieft of the car.

You can cancell completely and get a portion of the premium back. I would keep comprehensive coverage on though.

if you're keeping the car, you still need comprehensive and liability on it in case someone vandalizes it while you're gone or gets hurt trying to steal it.what you're spending on insurance for those 3 months, you'll be saving in gas and wear and tear on car

You should call them , an explain to them whats going on , an they might work something out with you.

You need to call them and ask them.

Why are you asking here? Ask GEICO.

My son leaves Ireland tomorrow Sat 17th Nov to fly to San Diego. He has rented a car to drive to Seattle - everything appears to be arranged. But I want to check he has adequate car insurance that is needed/required? He is over 25 years and has normal Travel Insurance.

Many credit card companies will cover insurance requirements if you use their credit card to rent the car. However, your son should have checked with his credit card carrier before he left. Once he gets to the counter in the U.S. it will not be practical to check. And since he's already left Ireland (since today is Sunday 11/18) that probably won't be helpful information for your son. However, manybe someone else reading this will be helped by this information.

Once your son is here he'll be pressured to sign up for every bit of insurance he can buy, whether he needs it or not. Rental car companies make tons of money this way.

He needs at least liability insurance to get a rental car. More is always preferred, but I think thats the minimum.

When I drove in California it was included in the hire charges

Anyone renting a car in the US from overseas will be able to purchase all the insurance he needs through the car rental company, liability and collision. He'll be completely covered if he asks for total insurance coverage.

I have just gotten a new job and I said I havent been in a car accident, but I did twice. Are they gonna find out about it when they add me in their car insurance?

If they run a Clue and DMV report you bet they will find it, if it was reported to either.

If your willing to take the chance that it was not reported and your willing to risk that your new jobs HR person along that companies insurance carrier wont send it through undewriting to verify information you have givin then your really diluding yourself. You need to be honest about this. The companies insurance carriers will not set the rate the company has to pay for you to drive a company vechical by the information you gave them. They will set the rate by what they discover in underwriting. Hopefully this new company will find your honesty with them refreshing and you wont start off on a bad note with them.

Good Luck and be Honest!

The insurance company I work for (we sell auto insurance only) keeps records on line in the computer for 15 years. So if you had an accident in that time span it is there to be found. Will the company that hired you do a through check on your driving record? I don't know. Did they ask for a driver extract (a copy of your driving record from DMV)? If they didn't they can't get without your consent. Most companies will ask that you provide that to them if driving their vehicles is part of your job.

Having said that, don't you feel a little remorse for being untruthful on your job application? It's not too late to tell the truth you know.

if it is in a police report or if you were at fault --- YYEESS....

yes

You have likely signed an agreement to allow them to have your driving records checked if you are added to their insurance. Yes, they can find out, and they will.

If your previous insurer knows ,the current one will know shortly. It is a matter of record.

"Will" they find out? There's no way for me to know. There is a chance that you'll get away with what you did. (Just like if you steal, there's a chance that you'll get away with it).

"Can" they find out? Probably, yes. If a police report was filed regarding either of the accidents, or the accident was reported to DMV, there will be a record with them. If any damages were paid by an insurance company, then the accident will show up on your CLUE report (which is easily accessible to a variety of different people).

Bottom line, never lie to an employer. It kind of goes along with the saying "don't sh*t where you eat." Your employer can fire you for lying. When you go to apply for another job, they will find out that you were fired for dishonesty and will probably not hire you.

You will get in far less trouble if you just admit up front that you are not perfect, and that you've been in a couple accidents. They may still fire you, but it won't be for lying - and you'll still be able to get another job.

yes, and I hope you get canned for being a liar. Its always better to be honest...then you don't have to worry about stuff like this.

haha yeah they might...but they also could just be desperate and not even care that much to even ask....but yea you better hope they dont find out

lying on job app = probably getting fired

Oh, yes they will. Every time they add a driver to the commercial auto policy, they will run an MVR and CLUE report on the driver. Every ticket or accident you've had (or been involved in, or that's happened in your household) in the past 10 years will show up.

YUP...they're gonna run a DMV on you and it will show up if it was within the last few years. Ya know ya can get fired if it does...it's called lying on your job app.

The insurance company won't know about your accident if you or someone else doesn't file a claim againt them. I doubt if they would even care about your accidents if you stay claim free against them.

I need some cheap full coverage car insurance if you know a company that has cheap rates let me know please!

I was able to save money through a free on-line quoting service at http://gsx1.com/InsuranceComparison.html

They had several links. All I did was fill out their quote request and received back a lot better rates then what I was paying.

I would suggest you try more than one quote before you settle with anyone, the service is free and there's no obligation so you might as well try it.

Here's some others from my bookmarks:

Progressive doesn't have a way of accurately quoting prices of other companies, so calling them would be a waste of time. I work for State Farm, and several people I have quoted told me that Progressive told them a different price. They don't know other companys' underwriting guidelines so they would have no way of giving you an accurate quote for another company.

No insurance company is always cheapest, so it's best to call around. If you are military, USAA has really good rates.

The better your credit and the better your driving record, the cheaper your rates are going to be. That said, it also depends on the value of your vehicle, where you live, the coverages you choose, the limits and deductibles of those coverages, and numerous other factors.

I will be biased and say that you should call State Farm for a quote [=

Try to stick to a standard company that is well known and regulated by the state. A lot of our customers have had problems with smaller insurance companies before they switched to us. Smaller companies are not regulated by the state so they can charge higher premiums and are not held to the same standards that the larger companies must follow.

There is no one answer to that question--it depends on the car, the person, their credit & driving record, the zip code where the vehicle will be driven and parked, etc.

My best suggestion to you would be to contact a reputable independent insurance agent in your area and have them shop several companies for you. They should be able to tailor the coverage to your situation.

The problem with getting insurance from one company is that your needs and situation may change. What is the cheapest rate for you now may not be if you have a claim or a ticket or add a teenage driver or a gillion other possible scenarios. A good agent will be able to help you reveiw your coverage periodically and move you to another carrier if/when necessary to help you have the best rates.

Also, keep in mind that your credit and your driving record DO affect rates. The better you drive and pay your bills, the better rate tier you will qualify for!

Since rates vary, I would ask Progressive. Visit an agency in person because they have the commercial and reputation of not only giving you their own quote but the quotes of other insurance companies so that you can decide which one to choose.

My husband and I used to have geico but they sucked lol. We switched to full coverage insurance with USAA insurance, we paid about 80 bucks a month for full coverage on the both of us and we both had a not so great driving record. They have great coverage options.

There's no "one size fits all" cheapest. Some are cheapest for young drivers, some are cheapest for DUI drivers, some are cheapest for sports cars.

There's no short cut - you'll have to shop around.

progressive.com will compare prices.

otherwise try a local insurance agency, not one of those national ones..like allstate..

Liberty Mutual does as far as I Know. The Agent I deal with is Mike Ritter 973-216-3940

I am 17 and I wanted to get a car. I am considering all expenses, so how much would insurance cost per month on average? What about the cheapest one? Why is the cheaper ones worse that the ones like State Farm and Geico?

about $20 a month, but you need many years no claim bonus and liability only. Also you must live in the country.

You are very smart to be thinking about insurance rates BEFORE you buy a car. None of them are going to be cheap for a 17 year old. No one company is better or is worse than another. I like to stick to the well known companies who have a local agent I can call or meet face to face if I have a question or a concern. All you can do is get a quote from several. Use the same car and same coverages with each company you get a quote from.

The price of insurance has many variables including your credit history, the type of car and your age. The best thing to do is get a quote on the type of car you are looking at. You may try Esurance they are reasonable. My insurance is thru them and I have never had any problems with them.

I'm 17 i live in california and my car insurance costs $500 for 6 months I'm not sure what my drivers insurance costs

I have heard that accidents and tickets will affect car insurance rates for five years. I was in an accident four years ago, that was determined to be my fault. Now, my (old) insurance company just settled this claim. Is this going to affect my rates for five years from the settlement date or from the date of the accident?

crizzy u, I recommend an online insurance quote. It's free and quick to do. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Insurance-Quote.html

In most states, accidents and violations can affect your insurance rates for up to three years. However, some states require accidents and violations to remain on your driving history for as long as five years. During this time, your auto insurance company may classify you as a higher-risk driver. This means that you could be charged more for your insurance than if you hadn't been ticketed or at-fault in an accident. Accidents that weren't your fault should not affect your insurance rates.

crizzy,

My son was involved in a wreck due to his speeding. Insurance went sky high. Existing carriers tend to take advantage of these situations.

I've shopped a lot and changed company. These gave me the best quotes for my 21yr. old son.

Be careful - his 5.0 "earned" him a ticket and now HE PAYS the insurance.

Although the time affecting your premium varies from insurer to another, it is usually three years; and the effects tkes place from the time the body shop claims the payment for the repair to your car.

Hi

Car insurance for temporary work in California?
I have a 4 months of temporary work in California and I am thinking of taking my car. My current car insurance will not cover driving for work purposes in California. What is the easiest way to get car insurance for 4 months for California?

You'll have to buy a policy out there, and cancel it when you're done.

It's not the California part that your insurer is having a hard time with - it's the "driving for work purposes". And depending on what you're doing, that can get VERY expensive.

Call some insurance companies in CA and get quotes.

Would someones 3rd party car insurance pay out if someone sued them?
A woman gave a friend a run every week, a couple of weeks ago they bumped into another car, there was no damage to either car. Her friend the passenger claimed she had whiplash, she was off work for 1 week and is now planning on suing driver.

The driver only has 3rd party car insurance and was just wondering if her car insurance would pay out to passenger or would she have to pay out herself if claim goes through?

That's what third party insurance is for. The passenger would be considered the third party and can sue the driver of the vehicle in which she was travelling. If there is negligence on the part of the driver and damages as a result then there could be a valid claim.

xxR

That is the idea of third party insurance, it means that they will pay out anything against the policyholder but not TO the policyholder if it is their fault, fully comprehensive is needed for that.

Yes, the claim wuould be against the insurnace company, not the driver.

Yes - the passenger is a third party.

Here is more information to help you.

The insurance policy is evidence of a contract between two parties. The first party is the insurance company and the second party is the driver. Anyone else is a 'third party' i.e. not involved in the agreement between the driver and the insurer, and the insurance policy agrees that the insurer will indemnify (i.e. pay the losses incurred by) the driver against all losses the driver may incur due to a claim by a third party.

Now the passenger cannot sue the insurance company as there is no contract between her and the insurer. All she can do is sue the driver. The driver then asks the insurer to indemnify them against the claim. At this stage the insurer takes over the negotiations to come to an agreement with the passenger.

It will be best if the driver responds to any question by saying "I have advised my insurance company and they will deal with it" - this does not admit liability (which would be in breach of policy conditions and could result in the insurance company refusing to deal with the claim). The driver I assume has already advised their insurance company. If they receive any further communication they should forward it (unanswered) to their insurers.

YES IT WILL

What is the best car insurance for a decent price?
I'm 19 and I will be getting my first car soon, and I have to look for insurance. Which insurance is the best and has a decent monthly cost?

There will be a lot of determining factors as to how much it will cost. Where you live, history, car, etc. the best way is to do some research for yourself and figure out what type of coverage you're looking for. Check this site out http://www.ez-insurancesearch.com they have some great info and will give you quotes from some of the top providers in your area. Good Luck!

Here's one I recommend:

http://car-insurance.moneysavecenter.com

they are all the main American insurers competing to get your business so chances are they'll come up with the cheapest quote, hope it helps, good luck. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080502211440AAkFiPD&kid=GcVoDEnZKFQs1XKt3GDc&s=comm&date=2008-06-21+10%3A52%3A44&.crumb=

car insurance is different for everyone. i have state farm, which is the cheapest for me. they are a great company. i've also had to deal with progressive and geico. both of which were great in handleing my claims. stay away from esurance.

just go to www.progressive.com www.geico.com www.statefarm.com and they can give you free instant quotes.

because you're 19 is though. It will depend what vehicle your drive also and your zipcode. If you have good grades that helps. Don't get insurance with mustangs, sport cars or eclipse. With those vehicles , insurance cost more.

they will run you dmv record . Hopefully you're clean.

When you ask for a new car insurance quote from your current or a new provider they always ask the question if you have been involved in an accident or have been pulled over recently etc, etc. My question is, do they already know this info and are they maybe testing me or do they really don't know? I've had two moving violations within the past 5 years and I'm wondering how to answer these questions when I shop for insurance on a new vehicle.

if you have gotten a ticket or two or three, i would stay with the same company and not make too much noise. unless you get in an accident, the likelihood of the insruance company running your driving record is almost zero. they won't know. if you try to go to another company - they will run your driving record - bank on it. and, the ticket(s) will show up and their quote will be higher as a result. Your current company does not know about it. Stay w them and don't make any noise.

YES, they already know.(they ALWAYS check with the DMV and court records) The only ones that are hidden is when you do the traffic school thing, and then the citation is dropped (you have to make sure to do everything right) and doesn't go on the record.

I recently had this conversation with an ins. provider:

Why are you charging more than the on-line quote I received?

The record shows an accident you didn't tell us about.

I haven't had any accidents in 25 years.

There's an accident on your record.

OH! that was my daughter, not me. She's on my policy.

Can you prove that?

If you have a record of it doesn't the record ALSO say who was involved???

No sir, I'm sorry. You must provide proof.

Take your policy and shove it!! I'll go elsewhere.

The best thing to do is to be honest with them. They don't already know that information, but they will almost certainly do a background check. They usually do a credit check, too. If they find out that you lied to them, they will raise your rates or even deny you coverage.

They can get the information if they feel it is worth checking on. They are mostly concerned with violations that lead to points being added to your license. At the time of the application they do not really know. They can check on it.

I moved from the West Coast to the East Coast, having had one ticket for speeding from 2 years earlier. I did the traffic court class thing at the time and didn't think anything more of it. Well, it was in the computer of the insurance company when I went to change over my insurance even though I did the class!

What is the car insurance company that offers 40% off for teenagers if they dont use the car later than 11.00 at night , ive heard eople go on about it but cant find it! Or if you no any other ways can get cheaper car insurance , im 18 and they all seem to cost a bomb!

hi stacie!

that insurance scheme using a tracking device to verify whether you will use it between certain hours or base it on the number of miles and roads used, was piloted by Norwich Union and has not yet been released publically, to my knowledge!

I believe it is called PAY AS YOU DRIVE

Anyways, to save money on insurance:

Buy a 1.2Litre or below

Value of car under 2k

If you want to save money in the long run then pay heavy now and build up your no claims bonus so that by the time you can afford an expensive car insurance will be the least of your worries!

If you want to save money now, and expect to earn so much taht when you get a good car insurance will be affordable... then be the 2nd driver (not main) and possible use DIRECT LINE for this purpose!

Finally, try confused.com to search for the best quote for you!!!

Hope ive helped!

What happens if accidently I gave false information to my car insurance during the application process?
I was under the impression that my 2003 car had ABS (anti lock braking system) because my car dealer told me so, I bought it used. Accordingly during the online application for my car insurance I said that my car has an ABS System. Pretty soon after that I discovered that my car does not have such a system. I would like to inform my insurance because I do not want to have problems in case there is an accident. But will they cancel my insurance if I tell them the truth?

Yes you can cancel your policy, by notifying them in writing. You do NOT get all the money back - there's a short rate cancellation charge, AND a cancellation fee when allowed by the state. The short rate is about a month's premium. The cancellation fee varies by state, but is typically $50.

Also, a good resource is this one...

http://carquotes.imess.net

All the best to you.

Well, if you give false information, if it's RELEVANT, it can void the policy. HOWEVER, things like ABS brakes are picked up in the vehicle identification number coding, and usually can't be overwritten.

So, as long as the vin on your policy is correct, they already know whether or not you have ABS brakes. For sure.

Just notify the insurer to correct the information. Might be a small increase in premium but that is all.

Call your insurance company and tell them you made a mistake, we are all human and we tend to make them

No they won't cancel so give them a call.

Try using http://My-InsuranceSearch.com to compare car insurance rates for all the major providers in your area.

Depending on whether you have a sub-standard ins company or not they more than likely won't cancel your policy. ABS does not provide a signifanct discount in premium so most companies don't even bother to verify this information furthermore, when VIN# the basic vehcile features would have automatically been identified by the VIN.

Now, from a claim perspective if you got into an accident in whis ABS would have help prevent a loss, once the inspection is done and they realize that you didn'thave the feature but was receiving the discount- they will more than likely pay the premium (again, this depends on your ins company) but in the event that they deny the claim, yu can oush back back because they provided you the discount without checking and or using there resources and you simply provied info abt the car to them as you were advised. Give insurance companies push back and they will do their best to retain you as an insured if your claims, payment history and overall account are an acceptable risk.

He has full coverage but I am excluded on his policy because we have the same address. I no longer have a car so I don't carry insurance anymore but want to be covered if I need to drive my son's car.

all you have to do is have your son add you to his policy....he has to to do this because he is the policy holder....and you having the same address has nothing to do with being on his insurance....i did the same thing with my daughter her car was in my name and i added her as a driver simple as that!

I've been without insurance for almost a year now. I canceled my old policy because I do not drive my car anymore and I'm selling it. So I finally bought a new car, and I am currently looking for insurance. But I haven't had any insurance the past year. Where can I get insurance?

If you do not have to many points on your license, or another situation that would prevent you from acquiring insurance, than you should have no trouble. People who have not driven for years, for whatever reason can still buy insurance, as long as their license is in effect. (VALID). You can go on line to Geico, or one of the other mega insurance services. But I would recommend checking with your friends, family, co workers, for a referral to their insurance agent. Preferably a local insurance broker. They have more companies to write for, thus giving you a better choice, and better rates.

find comparison sites from google. Here's one I always recommend as you can bundle all the other insurances with it like health etc

http://car-insurance.moneysavecenter.com http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20061120215835AAtTCWj&kid=GcVoDEnZKFQs1XKt3GDc&s=comm&date=2008-06-21+10%3A47%3A39&.crumb=

There are alot of places that will give you insurance, even though you haven't had any for a year. You need to shop around for the best price. One place you can call or go onto the internet is Progressive Insurance, Allstate. Most of them will give you a quote. If you go through a broker they will charge you a brokers fee. One insurance company you really don't want is Bristol West. Most others are pretty decent.

Almost anyone will insure you without problem as long as your driving record prior to this was clear. If your gap without was less than 12 months your driving record may not even be impacted.

Where did you get insurance the first time you bought a car? Pretty much any insurance broker or agent should be able to help you, unless there is something in your record. However, some companies will insure you as a new driver because you haven't had and insured vehicle on the road.

try your old place of insurance or just use yellow pages and call around or shop for some on internet

It is a very big problem because there is a severe shortage of insurance salespeople in this country, it is extremely difficult to find any insurance agency, even in the phone book, and if you can find an agency chances are you will not get an appointment for months since so many are taking up insurance salespeople's time clamoring and begging to buy insurance. Unless there is a state law against it, you may be better off driving without insurance.

This link (http://www.dmv.org/car-insurance.php) will take you to a page where you can get quotes from 3 companies. All these companies are brokers. What that means to you is they have anywhere from 3 or 4 to hundreds of insurance companies they check the rates with and then offer you the lowest rate they can find. If you choose a more traditional one-company, one-agent relationship then you have to take the rate that company offers or start the search again with another company.

call any insurance company, you will probably pay a higher rate for the first 6mos as you have not carried insurance recently, but

the second 6 mos will earn you a better rate

all insurance companies will penalize you for not having previous insurance (recently)

How can you negotiate with car insurance agency after a wreck that was caused by you if you have no insurance to cover the other driver? Are there any legal ramifications?

If you caused an accident and had no insurance - the other driver will be able to file an uninsured motorist claim. Their insurance company will pay for all the things yours would have (if you have insurance).

Then the other driver's insurance company will turn the matter over to their subrogation department. The Subrogation department will contact you about paying them back. Do not ignore them - they can have your drivers license suspended, sue you or turn you over to collections.

However, the subrogation department will be willing to set up an interest free payment plan for you to repay them for all they paid their driver. Most likely they will want at least $100 per month - until the debt is paid in full. If you miss payments - they suspend your license, sue you or turn you over to collections.

The other thing you can do - is see if the subro dept will accept a lesser lump sum. For example: you owe them $10,000 - they may be willing to take 7,000 if you pay it as a lump sum. They would rather get a little less all at once - than collect the full $10,000 - 100 dollars at a time.

Can you dispute the amount they want? No - not really. They paid it - you owe it.

** not legal advice **

what is it you want to negotiate on? you are at fault, you pay. one way or the other. they will turn it into their insurance company and their insurance company will come after you for payment. pay up!

Basic liability insurance will cover the other driver up to your limit. Did you have any auto insurance? If not, you are in deep !#$$$. If you do than it should already be covered.

Yes there are a lot of legal ramifications. Suspension of your drivers licence for one. A Hugh fine. Car is impounded until you show proof of insurance.

Then you will need to file a sr22 form for an entire year or more.

The other car at this point is insured. It is called uninsured motorist. After you pay all fines, fees, etc. maybe it would of been cheaper in the long run to have purchased the insurance.

There's not much to negotiate. You owe the other driver, for their damage and bodily injuries, in full. Period. That insurance company will take you to court and garnish your wages. You can't "sette", for example, for $.50 on the dollar. "Settling" will come after they go to court and try to collect. It might take 4-5 years of them trying to garnish wages unsuccessfully, before they sell the debt off to a collection agency that will be willing to settle.

My car insurance renewal is up this friday, however i am off on holiday for a month, so will not be driving my car. Can my insurance start in February instead?

Well, if your chimney fell down or a wall fell over and landed on your car, what then? best get the insurance mate.

Ask your agent or company to renew your coverage effective this Friday, with "comprehensive" coverage only. This will cover your car against fire, theft, vandalism etc.while you are gone.

But you must remember to call your agent when you are back from your holiday, before you start driving again, to restore your policy to full coverage.

For auto insurance the most efficient way to get a great rate is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make sure that you compare similar policies with the same deductibles, car make, location, etc so that all things are a good comparison.

What I always recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have top name insurers and can give several prices on car insurance polices.

Be careful doing this because you are then seen as an uninsured driver to the company if you get dropped. Does your company have a grace period? Call your agent and ask them that question. I would find a way to get it paid cause it is NOT worth the trouble it could cause. And just for the record, I had a friend whose car was in her driveway and still got hit!!!! Better to be safe then sorry.

Call your insurance agent, tell him / her the situation, otherwise they will cancel the coverage for non payment.

Don't see any reason why not - just let your Insurance Company or Brokers know, and they will alter the start date for you.

Of course you can.

BUT

Don't forget that it won't be insured while you're away and if anything happens, (e.g. it gets broken into or stolen) you won't have any way of recouping the loss.

FYI before you take coverage off your vehicle make sure that you won't lose any prior insurance discount. Otherwise when you start it back up in Feb you may get a much higher premium.

You should contact your insurance company. They may offer a discount rate for the month the car isn't being driven. You do not want to risk being canceled for nonpayment.

Just tell the insurance company when you call them up to renew.

for the situation like yours,I would like to suggest you have a look here http://www.Autoinsurancepro.info/auto-insurance-free.htm

That should not be a problem, call your agent and see what he thinks of this.

Will my car insurance rates go up in a single car accident?
Have had a perfect driving record for 20 years, last week on my way to work, hit black ice, and car overturned in the ditch - car was a total loss. Do you think my rates will rise? No injuries or property damage, just a totalled car from the crash. Have been with the same insurance company with no previous claims the past 10+ years.

First it depends on your state. If you are in NH, they can't surcharge you for a one car accident, even if you total the car.

Then, it depends on your company. Some have first accident forgiveness after you have been with the same company more than 3 or 5 yrs. Some have first accident forgiveness up to a certain amount (like only up to $10,000, above that is chargable). Some don't have any first accident forgiveness.

The best place to find out is your agent.

It really depends. The agent can be the one to give you the best information.

When I totaled my car at 16 my rates went up a ton, but over ten years later when I got into a fender bender (the insurance co had to pay out about $1000) my rates actually went DOWN because of the way that the insurance policy was written and the number of years driving I had.

depends on company.

my dad turned in the door on his impala got hit in parking lot. they raised his rates. now i had a fender bender with a pole with his car and he won't turn in as he's afraid his rates will go up again.

this is my first accident so i don't know if my old company would have raised mine or not.

No, your first accident is forgiven in MOST states. I would ask your agent since you already reported it.

Yes I think it will still go up but not alot.

no it should not go up. If it does get a new ins. co.

I have been told that my car insurance is high because of a bad credit rating. I am currently enrolled in a DMP to pay down some credit cards and I'm sure this is why it is so bad. Will any insurance company work with me to lower my rate? I currently have GEICO insurance bc it was the lowest I could find. I lease my car and always make my car and insurance payments on time.

Isn't it a joke that insurance companies can base your rate on your credit history!! Like, someone with bad credit just has to be a bad driver! This is an issue that needs to be addressed...just doesn't make sense to me where the relation is...anyway, in the meantime...raise your deductable up to $500 or higher, but stash enough extra $ to cover it if you have the need to file...hang in there...in the meantime, hope you have cut up those cards!

it doesn't help that you lease your car. Also, always get quotes to see if someone can beat the price you pay now.

This is a good site to get quotes from

http://car-insurance.moneysavecenter.com and there's plenty more in google. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070808071050AAqt9E0&kid=GcVoDEnZKFQs1XKt3GDc&s=comm&date=2008-06-21+10%3A45%3A09&.crumb=

There are many ways that you can lower your insurance. Some things you cannot change, such as your credit rating, but other things are in your control like taking driver's training or increaseing your deductible.

For more detailed information or more tips visit http://www.auto-insurance-knowledge.com/online-insurance-rates.html

Well, the DMP is probably trashing your credit.

MOST insurance companies won't work with you, however, if your credit is bad due to a catastrophic illness (like cancer) or divorce, some might - but ONLY the ones that work through agents. The Geico, Progressive, Leaders type won't care - YOU are your agent for them.

IF you've had the divorce or illness, or other extenuating circumstances, find a Travelers agent near you, see if they can help you out. If you haven't, if it's just overspending and credit cards, or unemployment or such, then you're out of luck . . . you'll have to wait it out, and it will be YEARS, as those DMP style outfits make things worse before they get better.

How much is car insurance for older muscle cars?
I heard that car insurance is pretty expensive for older muscle cars, and I'd like to know around how much a month car insurance would be for a 1968 ford mustang?

I depends on what you plan to do with they car. If it's a daily driver you'll be stuck with liability, which is cheap. If you want classic car insurance you insure to the cars value and they limit your driving.

go here http://car-insurance.moneysavecenter.com get quote.

You can back up, change car and get another quote if you want, it's a great tool. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20071206145647AA0QejI&kid=GcVoDEnZKFQs1XKt3GDc&s=comm&date=2008-06-21+09%3A55%3A57&.crumb=

You don't say anything about using it as a daily driver. There are several companies that specialize in classic and collector cars. The drivers of these cars tend to be more cautious than the average driver and because of that , they are able to offer some very attractive rates. I have a 1969 Cougar XR7 convertible and my coverage is only $130 per year. You can tailor the policy to your needs.

I have my 1969 amx insured with the hagerty collector car insurance company. Right now I have an agreed value of $18,000 on my car & $7500 on my enclosed trailor (that is insured with them also) and my premium per year is $360

I do have a mileage limit that is set at 5000 miles per year, but they never asked for the mileage of the car when I got the policy so how will they ever know.

i got a 67 GTO and its not insured......

not much at all unless you want classic car insurance only allowed on car shows and weekend drives but not daily driver

IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE IT AS A DAILY DRIVER THEN YES IT WILL BE EXPENSIVE BUT IF NOT THEN IT IS VERY CHEAP.

I HAVE 1975 PLYMOUTH DUSTER 360 WITH FULL COVERAGE FOR A VALUE OF $17,000.00 WITH SLIGHT MODS AND IT COST $215.00 A YEAR WITH ZERO A DEDUCTIBLE BUT YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE RULES.

JUST GO TO http://www.hagerty.com/

I am planning a trip and need to rent a car at my destination. I have several car companies that are willing to rent a car to me, though I'm 19, but they require full coverage car insurance, which makes sense, but the problem is I just have PLPD insurance. Is there a way I can temporarily purchase full coverage insurance from my car insurance company or what other options do I have for renting this car? Thanks!

I would say for now call your insurance company and ask if they offer something like this.

I've found some helpful info here too:

http://carquotes.fateback.com

Have a nice day.

it depends on the country/state you're in...however, usually, car rental companies are MORE than happy to sell you the required insurance - although it is a lot more expensive than if you can get the coverage through your own insurance company...

so, if you can't get the coverage through your insurance company (you CAN always get it "temporarily" if it's just the *cost* that's preventing you - all you do is ask your insurance company to add on the coverage, and then call them up and request them to remove it once you're home from your trip), the car rental company should be able to help you out - as well as themselves ($$$), lol.

good luck.

In the USA most companies require you to be 25. There are a couple who will waive that age requirement. I believe enterprise is one. As for the insurance, you can simply buy the rental cars insurance offering

you can purchase the insurance from the rental company it's cheaper

PAL P, For car insurance the quickest way to get a low quote is do a auto policy comparison. If you choose the same coverage levels, you can get an quick quote to compare against others. Use the same city/state, auto make/model, mileage and driving history to make sure you get accurate comparison. To get fast auto quotes, go to http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Insurance-Quote.html and you can compare all the major auto insurance companies.

Why does the government require car insurance but not health insurance?
Why is it that they care more about making sure the other person's property gets fixed and not about the health of the people involved?

This is a random thought driving home today from work.

What do you think. Should health insurance be required instead of car insurance?

Your insurance with cover repairs for YOUR car if someone wrecks into you but they do not have insurance. The purpose of the law is that everyone had car insurance, if someone hit your car, their insurance would have to pay and your insurance would not raise your principle. I am sure that if you read your insurance policy closely, it will say it only covers damage to other cars... unless you have a compehecive (sp?) policy in which case it will cover both cars.

Massachusetts is considering or has already passed a law requiring everyone to have health insurance.

The government has the jurisdiction over the roads and putting into law what conditions have to be met in order to use them. They don't have that jurisdiction over one's health.

Also, even if the law didn't require insurance, the bank financing your loan would until it's paid off.

One is not legally required to own a car, the insurance premium one pays is only required of them because they have a car.

If one gets sick, they don't have to see the doctor, if they're insured or not. Car insurance is to protect other people who may incur damages from your driving. If someone doesn't want to insure themselves medically, that's their business.

Its much simpler than the other answers. The state can deny you the privilege of driving you car on the road if you do not have auto insurance. They do not have the power to deny you the right to live if you do not have health insurance. If they could figure out a way they would make you have health insurance.

Where they require health insurance, what are they going to do if you can not afford an insurance policy. Someone with a severe preexisting condition could have a good job and still not afford a policy.

The required automobile insurance you are referring to is called "Automobile Liability Insurance". This is insurance that provides property and medical coverage to someone else if you are involved in an accident and it is determined you are at fault.

(Collision Automobile Insurance, which is extra coverage on the same policy, covers property damage to your car and is covered if you are at fault or even slid into something - anything that is not the fault of the other party - if the other party was at fault, your property would be covered by THEIR liability insurance)

Collision insurance is only required if you have an outstanding loan on your car through a financial institution (this is called a lien). This is because whoever (the morgagor) loaned you (the mortgagee) money for the car needs to make sure that the insurance will pay for damages (so they will be paid) in the event you negligently wreck your car.

Heath insurance is optional because the only person that is covered is you (not the PUBLIC at LARGE). Further, your own policy most likely also has personal protection that includes medical expenses for you to in the event of an accident - depends on the policy.

Health insurance is for accidental injury, illness, doctor's visits - usually not directly associated with a car accident - and this, again, depends on the insurance policy, circumstances, etc.

I know this is a lot, but thought I'd give you a good understanding of it.

Car insurance is required to protect OTHER people's property--not your own.

Unless we're worried about untreated pneumonia being passed around by poor folks, that's not going to be an issue.

*********************************

Goes to show you what good it does to "require" people to have insurance. BTW, I think you either need better car insurance or a lucky rabbit's foot.

Car insurance that is required covers the party's injuries, not usually the property.

You are required to have insurance to cover the damage you do to others with your car, but if you don't insure your own health why should anyone else care?

Good Luck

Car insurance isn't for YOU, it's for the other party. Health insurance is totally up to you, just like your optional car insurance (collision and comprehensive)

You don't need auto insurance if you operate your car, truck, suv, etc... on your own property. You are required to have it when you go into the public. The purpose is to protect the public from damage you cause.

i guess cause other people care more about you damaging their car and you not paying for it than themselves getting injured and not be able to afford it. Whats more likely to happen? myself getting injured or some jackbutt hitting my car?

not having car insurance affects others not having health insurance affects yourself. no i dont think health insurance should be required.

MA just started a law requiring health insurance, or get fined on your taxes.

Because if I don't take care of my body and die, you lose nothing - but if I don't insure my car when I crash into you - you lose!

It's about liablility... not protecting ourself.
